It’s All About Bam
Today we’d like to introduce you to a couple members of our family: Bam, the sulcata tortoise and Lotus, the golden doodle. Really, today’s story is about Bam, but Lotus is in the pic so you can have an idea of scale. Bam weighs 71 pounds (27kg), and he’s sixteen years old.
It’s a common misconception that if a tortoise is big, he must be old. Tortoises actually grow like humans - they keep growing until they’re about 15-20 years old, and that’s how big they’ll stay for the rest of their lives.
Having a tortoise for a pet is like having a triceratops roaming your backyard. Though he only eats grass, he is a force to be reckoned with, and if he wants to get somewhere, not much will stop him.
All this to say, Bam will not be coming with us on the road trip.
So that’s what we’ve been up to this week. We have some amazing friends who graciously agreed to care for Bam, and we began building him a new home at their place. It will take a few weeks to get the grass going in his new enclosure, but he’s going to be really happy there.
And if he’s happy, we’re happy. Can’t be worrying about your children while you’re out on the road, right?
Y’all Don’t Know a Damn Thing About JaMarcus Russell
Since Jess is from Louisiana, she followed JaMarcus Russell’s career from the early days (Geaux Tigers!). Gnob watched him in the NFL, and both of us wondered what was really going on with him. Such a promising athletic career seemed to just…fizzle out. Reading the story from his point of view, it finally made sense.
