What’s up, y’all!
This past weekend finally brought us some real Oregon rain, along with both good and bad adventures. Hmm, déjà vu? Nope, just the usual “two steps forward, one step back” path that life loves to throw at us.
THE BAD
We got the call this week that the Fairlady’s interior was done and she was ready to be picked up. We arrived bright and early on Friday morning to discover that the car had developed a mysterious misfire.
After some troubleshooting on the spot, we agreed that a parking lot in Grants Pass probably wasn’t the best place to figure out the issue, so we called Hagerty for a tow. Got the car home and it looks like the ancient generator finally died. If it has been intermittently failing all this time, that would explain a lot of the other problems we’ve been experiencing, so maybe in a way, it’s a good thing?
But that means this week started with a dead Sienna and ended with a dead Fairlady. A challenging week, to say the least. And then the weather decided it was time to get really cold and rainy. Knew it was coming, but still.
Sigh. Did I mention Friday was my birthday? lol
THE GOOD
But of course there were good things, too! Like I told gnob in the parking lot on Friday, yeah, this Fairlady thing is really annoying, but there are so many good things happening that I can’t let that one little stupid thing bring me down.
So we were stuck in a parking lot for a couple of hours. There are worse situations. For example, we could have been at work!🤣 Instead, I got to spend my birthday hanging out with my favorite human being and eating a bomb tri-tip sandwich from Sweet Tea Express.
Not only that, we had a broken, topless convertible facing an approaching storm, but we managed to get it home before the skies opened. See, good things happen to us, too!
Don’t let your emotions control your reactions. Emotions are like 5-year-olds. Do you really want to put them in charge? It’s normal to feel emotions (like anger at the car), but just because you feel them, you don’t have to act on them.
I know, I know: Easy to say, hard to do.
Try it anyway.
As for me, I had other things on my mind, because I had a trail race the next day. When I woke up on Saturday morning, it was 48 degrees and raining, but I still went out and ran a 10k to the top of a mountain and back down again. If I can do that, how terrible is sitting in a dry, warm car in a parking lot, really?
Do hard stuff. It makes you stronger.
Video of the Week
Fixing It Then Breaking It Then Fixing It Again
You knew this one was coming if you read last week’s newsletter. Though the knock sensor issue is still not fixed, at least the van ended up getting put back together properly. If that #*$@* washer had fallen all the way in, this could have been a completely different video.
It also would have been different if I had left in more footage of me fighting the door! But my task was not nearly as interesting as what gnob was doing, unless maybe you made a drinking game out of how many times I dropped the flashlight.🔦🍻
I also stopped recording after the job went awry and gnob said, “babe, you should just leave the garage.” When he gets really aggravated with a repair, the videos become, well, not suitable for all audiences. 🤣 I smile, nod, and go play with the dogs, lol.
What We’ve Been Into
Still reminiscing this week. Been thinking back to 2016, when we first got the Fairlady.
After driving through a snowstorm to tow her home, some online Datsun aficionados pleaded with us to bring her down to Mt. Shasta, California, for the annual meet. The 1963 model is very rare, so many of them had never seen one in person.
The car wasn’t even running yet, so we loaded her back onto the trailer for another tow. So far, I think this car has more tow miles than drive miles with us. Glad that will be changing soon.
Our Fairlady turned out to be so uncommon, we won a prize even though the car didn’t run. (We were the only entrants! lol)
It was awesome to share the car with so many people that day. It’s going to be even more fun to show it to you when it’s completed and running! And hey, don’t forget, we’ll be selling it if ya want it! 😜
That wraps up another week with Snale Racing! We’ll leave you with the quote that was most powerful for us this week. It’s always a good time for dancing. Peace!✌️
