What’s up, y’all!
jess here. I was getting really annoyed with talking about myself in the third person, so I’m just not gonna do that anymore, k?👍
Welcome to our new subscribers! For them, let’s recap who the hell we are and what the hell we are doing on the internet in the first place.
We’re gnob and jess, and we live in Oregon. For now. We’re (slowly but surely) moving away from Oregon, and into the Snale, our 1989 Toyota 4Runner. Once that happens, we’re going to road trip all around this great country of ours, and see what there is to see.
Along the way, we’d like to meet up with all of you! Show us your favorite spots to go wheeling, because we wanna come, too!😁
We’ve got a couple of things to finish up before we can leave, though. Danny Bonaduce is a 1985 4Runner who was born stock, but now identifies as a rock crawler. We are helping him through his transition to becoming as badass as the Snale. Well, not quite that badass, but pretty close.🤣
The 1963 Datsun Fairlady is the other project that we need to finish. We bought this car from the daughter of the original owner. The family began a restoration years ago, but didn’t finish it. Instead, they stored it carefully in their garage, and there it sat for over twenty years until we picked it up.
gnob has it running again, and it’s so much fun to ride in! When it gets back from the upholstery shop, I’m sure he’ll find one or two more things he’s not quite satisfied with, but it’s pretty much done at this point. Yay!
Once those two projects are out of our hair, we’ll throw the rest of our stuff in storage somewhere and hit the road. So tell us where you are, and let’s go wheeling!
Video of the Week
Modifying a Stock 4Runner IFS Axle Housing to fit an E-Locker Differential
Speaking of Danny Bonaduce, we managed to get him some garage time this week. Slowly but surely, indeed.
This vid is supposed to explain how to modify an IFS axle housing so you can put an e-locker in it, but it’s mostly me bitching about being dirty, hungry, and left-handed. LOL You do get to see gnob’s version of twerking, so make sure you watch all the way to the end! 🤪
What We’ve Been Into
There is another portion to our journey that is still a bit in the future, but you may have already heard about it. Once we’re done road tripping the USA (and who knows when that will be), we’re planning on moving to Costa Rica.
We’ve spent the last couple of years learning as much as we can about the country, its people, and its history. Did you know that in the 1850’s, there was this crazy American named William Walker who tried to take over Nicaragua?
He succeeded, but not for long. It didn’t turn out to be as easy as he had hoped, especially after he meddled with Costa Rica and Honduras. If you travel to Costa Rica today, in fact, the main airport is named after Juan Santamaría, a drummer boy who stormed Walker’s hideout with a torch. He lost his life, but his actions turned the tide of battle, and led to Walker’s defeat.
Here’s a fun video about William Walker if you’re interested:
We’ve known about William Walker and his exploits for a while now.
What caught our attention this week was this story. It is an amazing account from someone who traveled with William Walker on his pirate(filibustero) expeditions to Central America. It’s a short read, but it really manages to throw you right into the battle.
It wasn’t until we finished reading it that we discovered it’s an entirely fictional account written by a Nicaraguan🤔, but it is still worth checking out. That’ll be your history lesson for the week!🤣
That wraps up another week with Snale Racing! We’ll leave you with the quote that was most powerful for us this week. Peace!
