What’s up, y’all!
We have been slowly creeping our way back across the States to Oregon. We have some footage to put together about our time in the South, but right now we’re just focused on getting home. We’re so excited to start the next phase of our adventure, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it. Well, I can’t wait to tell you, but gnob says I have to. 😁
So we haven’t recorded much on the way back, but mostly that’s because we’ve been driving through a snowstorm nearly the entire way. 🥶 Not much to look at when you can’t see very far in front of you.
We did get to have a bit of wheeling when Google Maps decided to send us the back way to our destination in New Mexico. When we turned off the highway, the road almost immediately became gravel, but we decided to keep going. Then, there was a creek running over the road instead of underneath it, but we decided to keep going.
At 8000’ elevation, the snow was getting pretty deep, but it was beautiful, and since we hadn’t really had a chance to play with the truck the entire trip, we decided to keep going.
There’s no dramatic ending to this story, because we were in the Snale, and climbing a mountain through a snowstorm is one of the things it was built for! So we enjoyed the views, and made it to the cabin with no problems.
This wasn’t the first time Google misdirected us on this trip. It also recommended that we cut across someone’s field as a shortcut. Once it told us to use a road that ended with a chain link fence across it and nothing but desert on the other side. Google Maps said, “Ignore that, just keep going!"🤔🤣
We’re old school, though, and we have common sense, not to mention a couple of GPS devices, a compass, and a hard copy of a road atlas with us! It’s amazing to us how many people don’t know how to read a map. Trusting Google Maps can get you into serious trouble, but it seems that’s what people do these days.
Please learn to read a map if you don’t know how already, it may save your life one day. Review the details of your trip before you depart, know what turns are ahead, or at the very minimum, have an idea of which way North is!⬆️
